Quitters Sometimes Win

I watched the documentary film produced by Rhonda Byrne entitled “The Secret’.  The day after, I decided to tender my resignation as a Team Leader at the Call Center Company where I worked for almost three years.

I had a very relaxed job.  I do not answer calls from irate clients which I used to do for two years.  I do not have quotas to reach.  All I do is manage a team and guide them on how to solve troubleshooting problems on their networking devices. I had a good paying salary but it didn’t make me happy.  Something is missing and I have to find it.  But how will I do that?

I have decided to quit my job for me to move on.  In the office, it is inevitable not to hear negative comments coming from the agents.  Clients would call because they are frustrated with the products.  They tend to be angry and would squeal all the time.  The agents on the other hand would also yell as a defence.  The room is filled with negative vibrations.  Agents are shock absorbers.  As a defence, agents would also complain about their low-paying salary and other things as a form of retaliation to the bad experience encountered on the floor.

If I will not quit the job, I will be attracting negative vibrations for the rest of my stressful life.  As I face in the mirror, I noticed that a decade was added to my face.

What will my life be like after my resignation?  Will I go back to my passion which is the ARTS?

I love fashion design, directing, photography, travel and all but this will not feed me.  Will I manage back my Internet Cafe business?  This is a lucrative one but this would boar me to death.

I am confused.  I have been to a lot of extreme jobs but I haven’t stayed long because I always long for my passion.

I have to quit my job and enjoy a normal life.

2 days after my last day in the office was Sitti Navarro’s concert in CDO where I was the Assistant Director.

Weeks after was the Miss Teen Philippines 2008 Northern Mindanao Finals where I was the Assistant Director.

Days later, Dustein Sibug and Jiva Jimenez, state of the art photographers of the country gave a workshop on Photography in Cebu where I joined the team as Workshop Facilitator and Stylist.  We brought two models for a photo-shoot.

Now, I am busy managing an expansion of my Internet Cafe in Opol.

Come June, I will be starting my laptop business.

It is such an exciting life if you earn for a living and at the same time be happy with your passion.  What a great decision?  No regrets in my experience at the Call Center.  Computer Networking made it easy for me to run my business.  My developed communication skills helped me a lot in dealing the public.  Thanks to Rhonda Byrne!  Thank God for guiding me with my tough decision.

Essa Santos, Winner for Miss Teen Philippines 2008

It was 8:30 in the morning of May 3, 2008 when I arrived at the Gaston Park to meet the candidates for the Miss Teen Philippines 2008 Northern Mindanao for their motorcade.

That was a day before the pageant.  We started the motorcade at 10 AM.The last stop was at Lim Ket Kai Mall.  Aicy asked Essa Santos to accompany her to buy something.  On their return, Essa was greeted with white flowers prepared by the co-candidates.  Everyone gave flowers and greeted her happy birthday.

When everyone is finished, Essa expressed her gratitude.  She said that it was her most memorable birthday.  Though her parents were not with her, she considers the candidates and the production staff as part of her family.  There were no long cotillion rehearsals, no 18 flowers, no 18 candles, no first dance but the experience is worth remembering for a lifetime.

On the pageant day, Essa was 18 years and 1 day old. God gave her a late birthday present.  It was the title and the crown.

Essa Santos won as one of the fours winners for Miss Teen Philippines 2008 Northern Mindanao.

Half Naked

Miss Teen Philippines 2008 Northern Mindanao made a history in pageantry in CDO.

It is the first time that no makeup artist is allowed to be at the backstage.  The candidates were trained to be independent in preparation to the national level.  Every candidate was reminded to bring all the outfits, accessories, makeup and other stuff needed in the absence of their mentors.

Two days before the pageant was the Santacruzan and Fashion Show. The show was participated with ten members of the (OFDG) Oro Fashion Designers Guild.  The show started well with no gaps.  The last part of the show was the curtain call of the fashion designers and self-introduction of the candidates.   Everybody went to the stage already except for one candidate, Chubby Labrador.  All of the candidates wore a white sponsored Tee-shirt and denims.  She cannot find her white Tee-shirt and denims.  I saw Chubby’s face.  She is in deep trouble.  There was no time for me to look for her mentor.  The venue was filled with people.  Without second thoughts, I undressed my black Miss Teen Philippines Tee-shirt as well as my pants.  I was only wearing my briefs, socks and my headset.  Chubby then dressed up quickly and went to the stage gracefully. Her late entrance on stage and her black Tee-shirt was noticed by the Director, Glenn Cabaral.  Through the headset, Glenn squealed and asked me to explain.  I told him that I’m going to explain later at the backstage.  The production number was finished and all the candidates made their exit.  Everybody was shocked about how I look.  I was half-naked.  My lower part was covered with an evening gown worn by a candidate.  Glenn then came.  When he saw me, he just smiled.  I also smiled though I was freezing.

Be thankful of what you have.  Do not hesitate to share what you have.

The Importance of Saying Thank You

I was into selling Glutathione for years now.  Part of my sales incentives is a 5-year college certificate which is transferable.  My friend went to Manila so I decided to have him carry the certificate and asked him to give it to a friend who needs it.  I was expecting a text message from the recipient of the scholarship but there was none.  Did he receive it?  When my friend arrived in CDO, i made it to a point to see him.  I asked him if he gave the scholarship certificate to my friend.  He told me that he did.  They even went to the school and made sure that the scholarship was valid.  Though, it was valid.

I was not expecting a thank you as an acknowledgment of my kindness.  I just wanted to know if the gift was received or not.  The recipient may have lost his phone or something.  I would always invent reasons to make me feel comfortable.  But he would text me sometimes asking how I am.  Maybe, there are people who are not attuned in saying Thank You.  Does it make sense?

Months later, that friend sent me a text message asking me something.  I can still remember three years ago that there was a big bulge on his forehead.  I was suspecting that it was a cyst.  I brought him to the hospital and have him checked.  The doctor prescribed him an inflammatory pill.  Three days later, the bulge burst with fuss and blood.  Then on, he looked fine again.  The bulge and the pain were not there.

He has inflammation somewhere on his face again.  He was asking me the name of the pill.  Since I forgot the brand of the pill, I asked him to wait so that I could ask for his records at the hospital.  It took me a while to retrieve his records.  Thanks to Rey Pinalba.  I got the medication through text.   So, I sent him the information.  After sending the message, there was no acknowledgment that he received the message.  So, I texted him if he got my message and he said that he received the information.  Where’s the Thank you?

What a shame?  Shame on me that I befriend people who doesn’t have values.

Digital Camera

I have learned that everyone has the ability to re-direct limitation, weakness or suffering into strength and power.
When I was younger, taking pictures with diverse themes and concepts was my hobby.  There was one night when our house was robbed.  I lost my camera.  I lost my hobby.
I wanted to purchase a digital camera so that I could pursue my craft but I am in financial turmoil.  My hobby became a dream which is impossible to achieve.
I was working for a Call Center Company in Cagayan de Oro for almost three years.  On March 13, 2008, I decided to leave the company.  On my last day of work, April 12, 2008, my best-friend Raul Prima sent me a message that he wanted to see me before lunch.  My shift is 1 Pm to 9 PM.  I arrived first at the rendezvous at 10 AM.  He was riding a cab and I joined him.  He told me that we will be going to Taytay, El Salvador City to meet a friend from the States.  His name is Edgardo Lopez.  I decided to be absent from my last day of work.
We had lunch with Edgardo’s family.  We sang and drunk.

Edgardo worked and stayed in America for twenty years. After a long time, he’s home.  He loves to travel but he cannot do it on his own.  He asked me to accompany him wherever he goes.  He has a potent personality.  Yet, No body says NO to Edgardo.  Besides, I owe him a lot.  He has been my sponsor for my attempt to go to America three times.
Two days later, Edgardo and other twelve companions watched the Sitti Navarro concert at the Lim Ket Kai Atrium.  I was the Assistant Director of the concert.  He purchased a P250 ticket for all the thirteen of them.  Before the concert started, I moved them to the P500 seat.  The show ended and I went to Taytay with them.  I texted the Director, Glenn Cabaral, that I cannot attend the Post Production meeting because I have an important visitor to attend to.
When we were at Taytay, I noticed that he was holding a Canon Powershot G9 digital camera, my dream camera.
The next day, we went to Camiguin.
Days later, we went to Cebu.

The rented boat sailed at 10 AM heading Mactan.  When were islands-hopping, he asked me to take pictures of the island.    I was really trembling.  I might damage the camera.  I adjusted the shutter speed and aperture to come up with a good capture.  He asked for the camera and viewed the pictures I took.  Edgardo was impressed.  He asked me to take pictures of him.  I had fun knowing that I was reunited with the passion that I was longing for.  I did not eat lunch because I know that I could eat anytime.  I have to explore the camera since I have limited time.  On Edgardo’s previous travels, he doesn’t have many pictures.  That is the disadvantage of owning a camera.  You take pictures for others.  If you entrust the camera to your friends, picture results with be far from what you expect.  In some cases, others don’t know how to care for the gadget.  Edgardo was the most difficult subject I had in my whole life as a photographer.  He moves a lot and he doesn’t pose.  If you say smile, he frowns.  If you say standby, he moves.  Thanks to the B-complex supplement he’s taking daily.  He’s energetic at the age of 50.
He viewed the pictures.  He shared the LCD screen to our friends.  From that moment on, I became his official photographer.
Edgardo has a lot of business plans in CDO.
In May, he will open an Internet Café at Opol.
On June, he will be sending three scholars to college.
On July, he will venture on selling laptops, digital cameras, PSP, Nintendo WII, Black Berry, Xbox, Iphones, PDA and other gadgets.
On August, he will put up a dance Studio which will be managed by my best-friend Raul Prima.
Later this year, he will revive his theatre company which is based in Cebu.  He has a lot of projects not for himself but for his family and friends.
I was tasked to manage the Internet Café and the buy and sell business.
The most challenging part, I will take care of the scholars.
The most exciting of them all, I will design a web-site for his theatre group based in L.A.
The most rewarding part, he gave me the camera of my dream.

It was such a wonderful summer experience.
